Are You Working Hard
But Still Feeling Unfulfilled?
Leveraging Your Inner Strength: Emotional Intelligence
Research has demonstrated a clear advantage for leaders who are high in emotional intelligence in many areas including performance, joy and relationships. Yet, many leaders have not been given the resources to master application of emotional intelligence in the workplace, especially during times of chaos. There are 18 leadership competencies that have been identified for the high performing emotionally intelligent leader. They fall within the four quadrants of emotional intelligence as first outlined by Daniel Goleman.
Here are a few core questions to consider when evaluating your emotional intelligence:
Are you aware of your emotions and how they impact you and others? Can you self assess in the moment, allowing adequate course correction? Do you have a keen sense of what drives and triggers you emotionally? Do your self confidence show up during times of challenge?
Are you motivated and achievement oriented? Do you have a sense of optimism? When differences arise are you skilled at shifting perspectives.
Do you lead from a place of your core values and integrity?
When working with others, how often do you convey empathy and compassion?
When interacting, do you consider both the formal and informal power structures and leaders in the organization?
If you were to ask others, would they say your leadership style is more directive or influencing? Do you place an emphasis on building trust and developing others, with intention?
Do you bring energy that facilitates change while fostering teamwork and collaboration?
